Stuart Barlow

Barlow made a real name for himself while playing up front for Everton and later on had a spell playing Oldham Athletic. In March 1998, Barlow signed for Wigan Athletic for a bargain of £45,000 and it proved to be worth every penny. Barlow went on to spend three seasons with the Lancashire club and was outstanding in front of goal. During his time at Wigan he endured an outstanding record at the club. He scored a total of 51 goals in only 106 appearances, nearly averaging a goal every other match. He scored for the Latics in the 2000 play off final against Gillingham and later on moved on to play for Tranmere Rovers.

Graeme Jones

Jones made a real name for himself in the third division and at Wigan Athletic football club during the 1996-97 season as he was outstanding in front of goal through out the campaign and was a major reason why the club got promoted at the end of the campaign. He scored an astonishing 31 league goals during the season, finishing off the season as one of the top goal scorers in Britain and it was the most a player for Wigan Athletic had ever scored in a single season.

Arjan de Zeeuw

De Zeeuw moved to England in the year 1995 to play for Barnsley and he helped the club gain automatic promotion to the premiership during his time at the club. In total at Barnsley he made over 180 appearances for the club. In the summer of 1999, De Zeeuw moved to Wigan Athletic and the player instantly became a permanent fixture in the starting line up. He went on to spend over three years with the Latics, recording over 150 appearances in what proved to be his first spell at the club. In the summer of 2002, the player moved on a free transfer to Portsmouth and helped the club gain promotion in to the premiership during his first season. He was later on installed as the club captain however after a fall out with the Portsmouth manager, Alan Perrin in 2005, he moved back to Wigan. He was consistent for Wigan during his first season back at the club and helped them enjoy a great premiership campaign and reach the final of the Carling Cup, losing against Manchester United.

John Filan

Filan started his career off playing for Cambridge United in 1993, spending two years at the club before enjoying spells in goal with Blackburn Rovers and Coventry City. During the early stages of the 2001-02 season, Filan joined Wigan Athletic FC for £600000 and immediately established himself as the team’s first choice goal keeper. His outstanding play in goal helped Wigan gain promotion in to the premiership during the 2004-05 season. John Filan was born in Sydney of Australia in the year 1970.
