Colin Greenall

Greenall spent much of his early career playing for Lincoln City, Blackpool and Gillingham. In September 1995, Greenall signed for Wigan Athletic FC from Lincoln and soon became a favourite with the fans and was outstanding in his centre back position. His great determination earned him the captaincy arm band and he was in outstanding for Wigan through out the 1996-97 campaign as he helped the Latics win the Division Three championship. He enjoyed one of the greatest days of his career in the Auto Windscreens cup final match against Millwall in April 1999 as Wigan defeated the Londoners to win the trophy.

Andy Liddell

Liddell started his career off playing for Barnsley and was a key member of their team, making over 225 appearances for the club during his seven years at the Oakwell club. His finest moment in his Barnsley career was helping the side finish the 1996-97 season off in second place, in turn resulting in promotion to the top flight. After his season in the top flight with Barnsley, Liddell chose to move to Lancashire club, Wigan Athletic and soon became a favourite with the supporters.
He enjoyed a great season with the lactics in the 2001-02 season as he was prolific in front of goal, scoring 18 goals in what was Paul Jewell’s debut season in charge at the club. His 16 goals for Wigan during the 2002-03 season helped the Lactic earn promotion to the first division. By the end of the 2003-04 season, Liddell had made nearly 250 appearances for the club and scored over 75 goals for the club. He moved on to play for Sheffield United.

Roberto Martinez

Martinez signed for Wigan in 1995 along with two other Spanish football players. He was one of the most skilful players in the forth division during his first year at the club and finished his debut season at the club as the leading goal scorer with 13 goals. After his great performances at the club he became a supporter’s favourite and went on to spend six seasons with Wigan Athletic and made over 225 appearances for the club.

David Lowe

Lowe made his league debut for Wigan during the beginning of the 1982-83 seasons and soon made a big impact at the club. His finest hour during his first spell at the club was helping the Latics win the Freight Trophy Final at Wembley on 1st June 1985 as he scored an amazing over head kick in a classic encounter that Wigan won 3-1. He was in great form for the club during the 1986-87 campaign as he was outstanding in front of goal, scoring 20 times for the Latics through out the campaign. He was inspirational for the club helping them reach the last eight of the FA Cup and finish forth in the third division. He left Wigan in the summer of 1987, playing for Ipswich Town and then Leicester City. He moved back to Wigan, playing for the club for a few more years at the start of the year 1996. He broke Peter Houghton’s record as top goal scorer at the club during the 1997-98 season and is now currently the clubs all time leading league goal scorer with 66 goals.
