Eamonn O’Keefe

After a very successful period playing for Everton in the late 1970’s and early 80’s, O’Keefe signed for Wigan in January 1982 and made an instant impact at the club during his debut season. He moved to the club for a record fee of £65000 and was outstanding in his first season scoring a prolific 9 goals in only 20 matches as he helped Wigan finish the season off in third position and in turn earn promotion to the third. He was the clubs leading goal scorer during the 1982-83 season, netting in 16 goals for the club. He later on moved on to play for Port Vale.

John Butler

John Butler is certainly without a doubt a cult hero with the Wigan Athletic supporters. He started his career off in the early 80’s playing for Wigan and was well known for being able to play in many positions. During his first spell at Wigan, he made nearly a staggering 250 appearances for the club. In the year 1988, John Butler moved to Stoke City for £75,000 and became an instant starter for the team. After seven years with Stoke City, Butler moved back to the Latics and enjoyed a fine second spell with the club. His great goal keeping helped the club win the third division title in 1997, a campaign that proved to be his last with the club. During his career he made nearly 400 appearances for Wigan Athletic FC.

Graham Barrow

Barrow commenced his career off playing for Altrincham and moved to Wigan Athletic in the year1981 and instantly became a fans favourite. He was outstanding in the Wigan midfield during the 1981-82 season as the Latics won promotion to the third division, finishing the campaign off in third place. In total, Barrow spent five years with Wigan and made over 200 appearances for the club. He later on played for Chester City and came back to Wigan during the 1994-95 season, this time as the clubs manager.

Bobby Campbell

Campbell moved to Wigan during the start of the 1986-87 season and made an instant impact at the club. He only spent two season playing for Wigan however he certainly left a lasting impression with the latics supporters. He was outstanding during the 1986-87 campaign as he finished the season off as their top goal scorer and helped the side to forth place in the third division and the quarter finals of the FA Cup. He was once again top scorer for Wigan during the 1987-88 season and is considered a cult hero at the club.
