Peter Houghton

Houghton signed for the Latics when they were a non league football outfit in the year 1977. He spent six years playing for Wigan between 1977 and 1983 and was prolific in front of goal during his time at the club. He scored 62 football league goals for the Latics, only David Lowe scoring more goals in the history of Wigan FC. He was outstanding during the 1981-82 season as his prolific form in front of goal helped Wigan to promotion in to the third division.

Colin Methvan

Methvan is arguably the clubs finest ever centre back in the history of the team. He moved to Wigan in the summer of 1979 from Scottish club, East Fife and soon established him self as a rock in his centre back position. He helped the Latics finish the 1981-92 season in third place, in turn earning the club promotion to the third division. His finest moment in a Latics shirt was winning the 1985 Freight Rover Trophy with the club. During his long spell playing for Wigan he made over 350 appearances for the club and was named as the clubs most valuable player in two different years.
